Genesis, Growth and Life of the
New Hope Children Home
New Hope Children Home, the home for orphans, semi- orphans,
abandoned street and slum children is a vital organ of Helping
Hands India formally comes into existence on 25th March 2003.
It is registered under the Government of Karnataka having
Pastor Jacob as the President and George Fernandes has General
Secretary. Dr. Max and Mrs. Mickey Burgin became their pioneering
patrons. As a result it grows slowly but steadily.
Today the strength of this New Hope Children Home is grown
to 42. Most of these children go to one of the reputed schools
and 20% of the children scores A and A+ in their studies and
60% of the children are standing in between B and B+ grade
and other 20% are improving in their studies.
Children are participating in many activities such as SPT
Sports Academy Winter Foot Ball Camp, Singing and Choreography
Competitions which they got second prize and cultural programs
etc. In the Winter Foot Ball Camp one of the Children, Karthik
has been selected for the further coaching.
Some of the girls attend dance classes, 5 boys going for
football coaching, two of them are doing well in Cricket etc.
Their talents are such that they make lasting impression on
the audience. Daniel is the eldest in the Home receiving special
awards and presentations for his performances. All those who
visit the home witness the transformation that is taking place
in the NHCH in very big way.
The family members of George Fernandes very well support
this ministry. His 68 years old mother, who was a chief cook
at Bangalore Baptist Hospital cooks food, his sisters help
in washing and cleaning, his brother provides needed support,
and his wife Mrs. Jyothi George is ably coordinating the Home.
The uniqueness of this “Home” is that George
Fernandes and his family with two little children live in
the same house with these 42 children to provide them the
homely atmosphere. Though it is easy to rent a house and stay
separately, but George feels that would make them orphans
again. Thus their stay gives these home children the love
and care of the father, mother and grandmother. These children
are mentored from every angle. Thus it is fulfilling seven
fold objectives of NHCH.
Seven Fold Objectives are:
- To create ambitions in the child’s mind so that
one day the child will become a better citizen of India
- To provide best education to these children
- To take care of the physical, mental and psychological
growth
- To sow love in their hearts and facilitate them to grow
in brotherhood
- To identify these children’s talents and help them
to develop and use the same
- To conduct training programs, and counsel them according
to their needs
- To provide them space for the spiritual nourishment
Thus New Hope Children Home aims to bring holistic development
in the children’s lives.
